If you've ever received an acupuncture treatment, you'll know that what sets us apart from other practitioners is that we ask MANY questions that may or may not seem related to the reason you came in for your treatment. And this is because acupuncture is a holistic therapy. Unlike purely physical therapy where you may be able to receive dry needling, your acupuncturist wants to understand the puzzle pieces of your medical history that shape the why's and how's of your symptoms... the mental, emotional, social, genetic and physical aspects that underlie your present situation. Not only does it inform the manner in which we select your acupoint prescription (and herbs or other modalities included in your treatment plan), but also because this is the best way to create the change that you seek... by investigating and understanding how we got here in the first place.
We can look at aesthestics in a similar way: holistic beauty is whole person beauty... so when you come to Olive Tree Acu for an esthetic service, you will of course be treated on a root cause level. And again, this is what sets us as holistic practitioners apart from other specialists - we understand that beauty is not just an outside job. Rather, we are committed to addressing your beauty and physique goals by treating you from within and by tailoring your treatment to your individual needs. For a simple example, while I always want to reset your nervous system and help you relax during your treatment (because rest and peace are important for beauty), some people (though not common) actually need sympathetic (activation) nervous system support rather than parasympathetic (rest/recharge). Another easy-to-understand example is, during a facial rejuvenation treatment where I'm asked to work on someone's "wrinkles," I have to decipher whether I need to focus on massaging out tension or strengthening lax tissues - two ends of the wrinkle spectrum. Sometimes it's a bit of both approaches! Another example yet: perhaps someone has marionette lines on their chin, or 11 lines on their forehead... the cause could be due to neck and jaw tension (which will have an even deeper underlying cause), or frequent frustration and irritability, chronic pain, overthinking, anxiety, poor sleep, etc. etc. etc... and the way I approach those marionette or 11 lines will be different depending on the underlying why and how. Cupping and buccal massage are great for relieving tension and stress. Acupuncture + microneedling is amazing for emotional support + smoothing & tightening in cases of lax tissue due to spleen deficiency from overthinking. Tuning forks are so supportive for nervous system reset and calming the mind... I could go on and on and I LOVE finding the perfect combination of modalities for every individual at that moment in time.
Isn't it interesting? And beautiful? ;) It's what I love most about what I do, and why I think people enjoy this unique approach to beauty. It's a reminder that, while there are so many amazing options out there for beauty enhancement (no shame if you're a botox babe or into other stronger and faster acting modalities - my approach is great for pairing with and supporting those options), we must remember that true, lasting beauty is a reflection of health and peace. So I extend my olive branch and invite you to experience a bit of refuge and tranquility... at Olive Tree Acu.
